Remote Sensing and Landscape Archaeology

Remote sensing is the collection of data from the reflection of radiant energy bouncing off the earth. There are two types of remote sensing: passive and active. Passive sensors collect data by the reflection of energy off the earth due to the suns radiation. Passive sensors can only be used during the day. Active sensors can collect data at night because transmition of radiant energy originates from the satellite or aircraft.
